What is BYU Alumni Career
Services? I went through my entire college career and two dozen years in the
workforce following without any knowledge of the program. So, for this article,
I set out to determine what students really know about the organization.
There is nothing really scientific
about my approach; my task was straight-forward and relatively simple:
1. Find out how many students have
heard of BYU Alumni Career Services
2. Assess what students know about
the organization
As I began asking questions, I discovered
some interesting results. While some students had not heard of BYU Alumni
Career Services, most were able to tell that we help students and alumni build
a career path to work towards future employment.
Josh Bennett was one student I talked
to who had heard of BYU Alumni Career Services through email notifications. He
said, “I see college as the place to build connections.” Fortunately, that is
something we focus on here at Alumni Career Services.
Generally, it’s pretty easy to
guess what we do; it’s in our title: we help alumni find jobs. Unknown to most
at face value, we also work to provide so many more resources ranging from
networking to career fairs, from career assessment tests to resume critiques,
and much more—all for free! While most of our services are highlighted in other
